Biography

Dr. William CAI is a professor at Harbin University of Science and Technology (HUST) / Founder of Jing-Jin Electric (stock code 688280). Foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, Fellow of SAE International, Fellow of the China Society of Automotive EngineeringChina SAE, Fellow of the Chinese Electrotechnical Society, Directors of the China EV100China SAE and the Chinese Power Supply Society. He is the group head of the "New Energy e-Motor System and Key Materials Innovation Research" team of Heilongjiang Province in HUST, and the chief scientist of the Engineering Research Center of the State Education Ministry for Automotive Electronic Drive Control and System Integration. He has served as an Expert of the National Overall Group for China Key Projects of Energy-saving and New Energy Vehicles since 2021.

He got his PhD from Clarkson University in USA, has 18 years of academic experience, 20 years of industry experience, including full-time in European and American universities and industries, such as the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology-Zurich in Switzerland, Clarkson University in the United States, and Remy International Inc. in the United States for 14 years. He has achieved significant innovative achievements in the R&D, design, engineering, and application of new materials in electrical engineering, especially in new energy e-motors and power electronic systems, Including the invention of the globally leading "Hairpin" flat wire winding motor and the first application of oil cooled motor systems in China.


Lecture Summary

(1) Reduce carbon emissions through clean energy generation and vehicle electrification. The W-to-W CO2 emissions of electric and gasoline vehicles at different stages of the dual carbon strategy are compared;

(2) Global and Chinese new energy vehicle industry and e-powertrain technology development are described, which consists of the present situation and forward technologies;

(3) Hot issues of electric powertrain innovation and their challenges to supply chain are briefed;

(4) Advanced technologies of materials and processing for efficient and high-power density electric drives, propulsion motors, and power electronic controllers are given for references.
